Bingo Night

In another event, again organised by the Alder Hey branch, over £250 was raised for the Association. The event was in the form of a bingo night, with various prizes on offer.

Again, well done to the Alder Hey branch.

Southport Carnival

On a very rainy day in June, the Alder Hey branch took part in the Southport Carnival. Although the weather wasn’t good, the carnival itself went extremely well with nearly £2000 being raised for the Association.

In addition, of all the 46 floats that took part, the Association’s float won in the ‘Best Float’ competition.

Well done to Val Frew and the rest of the Alder Hey branch.

A picture of the float can be found on the Southport Forums website. Hopefully we’ll have more pictures from the day to follow.

Manchester Balloon Day

balloonThe balloon day on the 14th February went very well. It was very busy in Manchester and the balloons were popular and easy to sell. The people blowing up the balloons in the van were kept busy all day and could only just keep up with demand.

Oldham and Tameside branch Christmas Meal

The meal at Phoenix City in Stalybridge on January 24th went very well and everyone enjoyed the evening. The food was of a high standard and the service was excellent. The restaurant celebrated birthdays by playing ‘Happy Birthday To You’ and presenting a cake with a candle to blow out. As Damien had celebrated his birthday the previous week, Alice made sure he got the chance to be serenaded and blow out the candles.

Manchester Christmas Party

santaA great time was had by all, we even had Santa turn up to wish the children a very happy Christmas (unfortunately some of the adults also wanted to meet Santa!).

Paediatric & Congenital Cardiac Services Review

The Government set up the Review Group to advise on the implementation of the recommendations of the Kennedy Report for paediatric and congenital cardiac services following the tragic failures at Bristol Royal Infirmary. In carrying out its work the Review Group has taken full account in its work of the findings of the Bristol Royal Infirmary Inquiry and other reports as they have been published. The review was published in November for a 3 month consultation, therefore, responses are required by 28th February 2003. Thank You for Your Memories

josephA big thank you to Joseph Flitcroft, the father of one of our members. Last year Joseph wrote a small book about his memories growing up in Millbrook and Stalybridge in Greater Manchester, and some of his memories of the war. Joseph has donated proceeds from his book to the Association, currently totalling over £230. For more information about the book, or to request a copy (at £3.50 each), please email the Association.
