A big thank you to Joseph Flitcroft, the father of one of our members. Last year Joseph wrote a small book about his memories growing up in Millbrook and Stalybridge in Greater Manchester, and some of his memories of the war. Joseph has donated proceeds from his book to the Association, currently totalling over £230. For more information about the book, or to request a copy (at £3.50 each), please email the Association.
Tanya’s Charity Nite
Many thanks to Tanya Herbert for organising an extremely successful Charity Night. Not only has a cheque for a massive £1800 been handed over to the Association but all those involved seem to have had a very enjoyable and interesting evening.
Thanks to all the helpers, sponsors and acts although a special mention must go to Dame Edna (Adrian Doughty) and the Reveallers (Jimmy, Richard, Steve, Gary, Mick and Alan).
In fact, everyone enjoyed themselves so much, Tanya is planning other events in the not too distant future.
National AGM
The Association’s National AGM will be held on Saturday 22nd June at Portland Basin Museum, Ashton-under-Lyne. We are arranging for at least one speaker to attend, and a creche will be available. Lunch will be provided and all members are welcome to attend.
A great time was had by all at the event last year.

Donation – Leigh Ratcliffe & Graham and Brown
Our thanks go to Mr Leigh Ratcliffe, who works for Graham and Brown. Leigh took part in the Three Bridges 10K race and, through sponsorship, raised £102.00 for the Association. The Association is Graham and Brown’s adopted charity for the year and so they matched Leigh’s donation, raising a total of £204.00 for the Association
Many thanks to you all.
Saddleworth Beer Walk
The Annual Saddleworth Beerwalk took place on Saturday 25th May 2002. The Association had a total of 39 walkers taking part, a pleasant increase on the numbers from recent years, so we hope to have raised a good amount of money for the Association. Final figures are still not available, however, they will follow soon, along with photographs of the event.
Lakeside Weekend
The adventure weekend took place at YMCA Lakeside in Cumbria at the end of June this year. A great time was had by the parents and children alike. For more about the weekend, see the article in the events section. About the Lakeside weekend
Donation – Rochdale Police Station
In July we received a phone call from Mr Bill Taylor (who has previously taken part in fundraising activities for the Association) to say that he and a colleague at Rochdale Police Station had a cheque to present to the Tameside and Oldham branch. Bill and Tony Anwas had raised £300.22 through a sponsored slim and we arranged to go along to Rochdale where Peter Shaw accepted the cheque on behalf of the Association.
Many thanks to Tony and Bill.
Donation – Graham and Brown
Many thanks to Graham and Brown. We kindly received cheque for £203 from the ticket sales and donations by employees at a charity disco. A separate donation for £100 was also received from the company. Special thanks to Glynis Holt and Donna Berry for their help.
English AGM
The Association’s English AGM took place on Saturday 16th June at the Portland Basin museum in Ashton Under Lyne.
The turnout was much larger than the previous year, and a great time was had by all.
A talk was given by Marco Pozzi, a heart surgeon from Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool. Some of the slides he brought are available on Alder Hey’s web site. For more information about the day’s events, please see the article in the Events section.
