For when you are visiting the hospital and have a little time on your hands we thought we’d share some of the places you wouldn’t necessarily find on your own. We’ve got local parks, shops, cash machines and petrol stations though to some favourite restaurants on the Curry Mile just south of the hospital, and some local culture too.
Click on any of the map markers to find out a little bit more.
Places to play outside
- Swinton Grove Park
- Whitworth Park
- Platt Fields Park is a little further so you might prefer the car or a bus
Indoor places to enjoy
- Whitworth Art Gallery
- Manchester Museum with reptile area
Shops
- Tesco Local with a Petrol Station
- Post Office, a Pound shop, Tesco, Lidl, Superdrug and a bicycle shop
- M&S food place in the hospital grounds
Eating out
We’re lucky to have the Rusholme Curry Mile just south of this map on Oxford Road. Particular favourites are Mughli, Sanam or Shere Khan. If you want some fresh air with the promise of a treat there’s Moonshine Icecream bar too. The café in the Whitworth Art Gallery used to be amazing and we’re hoping the new renovations will include a café again.
Culture
If you’re wanting to look at some local history (or somewhere to send the relatives for some peace) there are two interesting buildings in the area that have recently been renovated. Not open all the time so check their websites for times
- Victoria Baths
- Elizabeth Gaskell’s house
Cash machines
There are plenty scattered around the place if the one in the hospital foyer is out of order. The closest is inside the Post Office, or round the corner by Tesco & Lidl, or at the other bit of Hathersage road by the takeaways there is a shop with a free cash machine inside.
